REQUIREDGraduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia or in a compact State. Prior significant psychiatric nursing experience and demonstrated experience in managerial elements.  Demonstrated effective leadership skills of delegation, organization and coordination of activities related to the functioning of assigned program.   Extensive knowledge of mental illness, recovery principles, and principles and practices of psychiatric nursing.  The ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care of individuals who have a serious mental illness, both in the acute and chronic phase.  Ability to think critically in situations that require managing multiple priorities.  Ability to formulate and implement broad based nursing actions and a variety of individualized treatment interventions in complex care situations.  Knowledge and skill in group leadership and dynamics.  Ability to supervise performance of and make judgments about performance and provide actionable positive and corrective feedback to others.  Able to contribute to the cohesiveness of work team, including accepting feedback from others.  Ability to collaborate, problem solve, and negotiate with colleagues of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team and all departments and other disciplines.  Ability to utilize effective written and verbal communication skills.  Knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical conditions and biophsychosocial needs of patients and the principles of and practices of psychiatric nursing.

PREFERRED:   Graduation from an accredited college/university in a Human Service field. High School Graduate with significant experience providing direct care services in an inpatient program for individuals with mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities or substance abuse histories. Recent experience in a supervisory or administrative role in a public mental health setting strongly preferred.
